Big Tree Charcoal is run by Andrew Hodgkinson. With a background in ecology and ranger work, he makes charcoal from local wood arising through woodland management and conservation work around Methven Moss.

The wood is mainly birch, with some willow. It is charred in portable retort kilns, cooled and packed by hand.
